All of Rosa Barocca mourns the loss of our frequent collaborator, Calgary’s outstanding singer Paul Grindlay who passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025.
It is difficult for us to imagine a world without Paul. He was a friend, a colleague, an inspiration, and a true artist. Artistic Director Claude Lapalme recalls his connection with Paul: “While his vocal skills were world class, I believe that most of us remember Paul even more as an outstanding human being. He reflected very deeply about every aspect of life and radiated warmth and humanity. Every collaboration between Rosa Barocca and Paul was special because we felt the great love he had for the music he sang. That love was also manifest in his interactions with people, and above all with his family. His wife Christina Jahn sang with us just as often as he did, his daughter Emilia joined the choir for our latest tour, and his daughter Elena was always present at every performance, often helping behind the scenes – singing was a family affair. We are as one heart beating for all of them at this moment. All of us will miss him, but we will always remember him.”
Featuring the ever-brilliant Elinor Frey and Rosa Barocca, the baroque ensemble for which I have to honour of being Artistic Director.
